Fraxel Laser

What can the Fraxel™ laser do for me?

The Fraxel™ laser is a new FDA approved laser that offers many of the benefits of ablative laser skin resurfacing, but without the lengthy recovery period. Reliant Fraxel™ laser is used to treat wrinkles, uneven skin discoloration, sunspots, age spots and it can improve the appearance of pores and scars.

How does the Fraxel™ laser work?

During a Fraxel™ laser treatment only a fraction of the skin is targeted by the laser light. This infrared laser precisely delivers an intense beam of laser radiation in a series of microscopic closely spaced treatment zones. The “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area where treated at once. This process protects the skin from enduring too much damage at once and eliminates much of the downtime associated with ablative laser surgery.

How many treatments are needed?

A series of 3 to 5 sessions are generally recommended. Your doctor will be able to determine how many treatments will be best for you during your Fraxel™ laser consultation appointment.

What should I expect during and after a Fraxel™ laser treatment?

Your Fraxel™ laser treatment can be performed right in Dr. Wooming's office using only a topical anesthetic. After the treated area is thoroughly cleansed, a blue tint called OptiGuide Blue is applied to highlight the contours of the skin. Then, an anesthetic ointment is applied followed by your laser treatment. It is important to avoid sun exposure before and after your laser treatment and use a SPF 30 sunscreen daily. After your treatment, you will experience a sunburn like redness and some mild swelling is possible. This will generally resolve in a few days. Your skin will temporarily have a bronze appearance and you will have some flaking or peeling as the new epidermal tissue replaces the damaged tissue. Following your Fraxel™ laser treatments you will gradually notice that your skin becomes softer, smoother, fine lines and wrinkles will fade along with the uneven coloring and brown spots caused by aging and sun exposure.
