What is Radiesse™ ?
Radiesse™ (formerly called Radiance) is a long-lasting injectable filler used for correction of deep facial lines and folds as well as for augmentation to restore volume in hollow facial areas. Radiesse™ is a compound which consists of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in an aqueous gel. Because calcium is a natural substance already found within the body allergy testing is not necessary prior to treatment.
What areas are best treated with Radiesse™ ?
Radiesse™ works best at treating deep lines and folds such as:
- Nasolabial folds (the lines extending from the outside corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth)
- Frown lines (the lines extending down from the corners of your mouth)
- Lines located around the lips (sometimes referred to as smokers lines)
Radiesse™ can also be used for soft tissue augmentation of cheeks, chin and to fill in deep acne scars.
How long does Radiesse™ last?
The duration of this injectable filler is dependant upon the treatment site and the way each individual person metabolizes the product. Radiesse™ is considered to be longer lasting than hyaluronic acid fillers or collagen. Typically results will last for 1 to 2 years. Touch up treatments may be needed to maintain desired results.
What should I expect during and after treatment with Radiesse™?
Radiesse™ is a simple office procedure that provides immediate results. A topical anesthetic cream or anesthetic nerve block is used to numb the area of injection and minimize pain. Treated areas may be red, swollen or bruised for a few days after a treatment. Avoiding aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication and nutritional supplements such as gingko biloba, Saint-John's-wort and vitamin E will help decrease the risk of bruising.
